Until my redundancy last year after 20 years at Citigroup, I worked next to the Technology group that implemented the Faster Payments system for Citibank UK. I know that they successfully completed live trials around spring 2008. Friday evening, 12 February 2010, I initiated a transfer online from my Citibank UK Sterling current account to my NatWest Sterling current account. Today, Tuesday 16 February, my NatWest account has not seen the transaction, so I spoke to Citibank UK. The Citibank UK call centre informed me that the transaction occurred yesterday, and that Faster Payments has "not been put in place", so that the transaction went as a BACS transaction, requiring "three working days". I find this foot-dragging by my previous employer inexplicable, as capable as I know their Technology employees to be.
